What People Are Saying About Whalens

“Good fishing - quiet, clean and affordable”
- Captain John of the Jo-Kar Fishing Team

“Whalen’s Grindstone Shores is conveniently located for a weekend getaway. I can leave work on Friday and be there in just a couple of hours. I’ve launched my boat, and spent most weekends through spring and summer in a cabin at Whalen’s, for many years now”.
- John A. Rochester, MI

“Having grown up and spent every summer in Michigan’s Thumb Area, I wanted to go back. We had spent time in Port Austin and Caseville, and wanted to explore Grindstone City. Actually, my son told me about Whalen’s Grindstone Shores, where they have cabins, campers, RV’s, boat docks and charter fishing. I was seeking out the cabins, sun and water, my husband excited about fishing.

We packed up our car, headed up North setting out for Grindstone City. To my great surprise, we found that each cabin was adorably decorated, and included fresh, clean bedding, assorted pots/pans/dishes, utensils, microwaves, refrigerators and stoves, TV and air. There is even a laundry facility as well as public showers for campers. All we had to bring was our clothes and food. This means that we can pick up any time, and just take off at a moment’s notice. We have been going back to Whalen’s for four years now, and manage to get there once a month for each of four months out of the summer, every third weekend. We have met wonderful people who have become great friends and love to attend their planned themed meals – from potluck breakfasts and lunches to the chili cook off.

The entire resort is clean, parking is right outside your cabin, and the dock is within a stone’s throw from your cabin. The view of Lake Huron is amazing and the campground is maintained beautifully. Management takes great care to see that everything is just perfect for each and every guest. We come from the Metro Detroit area and it takes about 2 ½ hours to get there. Not too much time on the road, and plenty of time left to spend a whole day of what you came there to do. On Saturdays, there is a wonderful Farmer’s Market nearby with something for everyone.

It’s December now, and I am patiently, but anxiously waiting for the spring, knowing that we’ll be back at Whalen’s. Oh, and did I mention that we have two favorite cabins? It’s the perfect get away, and very affordable. Whalen’s is a wonderful place to take family, and meet new friends.
